How to Stay Popular in the Texting World

Being Text Savvy

Like anything, the trick to staying relevant is to follow a few basic rules. Yes, even texting has etiquette. If you don’t follow the proper decorum, chances are you will feel left out more often than you should. First of all, when it comes to texting, grammar is king. Make sure your texts make sense before hitting the send button. Sometimes, spelling mishaps are not always your fault. They can become unwittingly awkward.

Who Made This Crazy Algorithm?

The culprit here is a little thing called “auto correct.” Sadly, it seems to act a bit like Donald Trump, politically incorrect and living in its own reality. Auto correct is infamous for creating a number of nonsensical texts known as fails. Let’s face it, no one wants this to happen in the middle of mobile sexting your partner before a romantic evening!

A text that is full of abbreviations that you need to ask Google to figure out is not going to go over well. Basic ones like LOL, OMG, ROTFL, are standard and most people know what they mean. Just don’t try to be too creative or go overboard. You can go from cool to fool in less than the time it takes to type them. How many times can you use an exclamation point? Let, me count the ways. Hardly ever!...Right!

Use Punctuation to Express Emotion & Please Do It Right.

"Did you eat my bread?" is a question. "Did you eat my bread!!??" is a question, an answer and a slap in the face all at the same time. In this case, you should apologize by saying "I am so sorry :( I will replace your bread before you get home." Emojis are cute and cuddly, but keep them to a minimum and make sure they are relevant.

OMG! Never send a text saying "U want to come to my ðŸšž and have a ðŸŒ and ðŸ˜ƒ ðŸ’˜ðŸ’•ðŸ’– Don't go crazy it can make you look like you can't spell or form a proper sentence. Not to mention you will leave your recipient thinking you have gone a little crazy lol!

Adopt The Less is More Attitude.

Overdoing anything is not cool, especially capitalization. Please Use CapitAliZation Where iT Is Necessary AnD NOT LikE ThIs. Not only does it look ugly, who can read it? How many times have you seen someone write on Facebook or Twitter and write a sentence with the cap locks on? We can hear you, you don't need to shout.

In conclusion, if you want to stay hip and cool, just keep all the text jargon to a minimum and keep it real. You are still talking to a human being. Pretend they are right in front of you and act accordingly. If you wouldn’t say it in person, don’t say it in a text. Because you don't want someone to form the wrong impression of you.
