Is social media the route for your?

Thinking about a career change?  Have you every thought about starting your own business but not sure what you want to do or where to start?

Right now is the perfect time to begin learning about SEO and Social Media. It is fast becoming one of the hottest jobs in the employment market today.

To date, there are currently 39000 jobs available for social media managers and other related social media platforms on www.simplyhired.com. Even more amazing, most are paying an average salary of 30000-50000 per year.

The truth about marketing is - newspapers and magazine advertising is virtually dead and commercial advertising is too expensive. The only alternative that small business owners seem to have is in fact free online advertising, known as, Search engine optimization (SEO) and Social Media Marketing (SMM).

It is cheaper and more realistic for small business owners to pay for a social media manager or SEO expert to harness the power of this free marketing platform, than it would be for them to pay for a huge advertising campaign that may or may not be effective.

It makes perfect sense that the best place to find new leads and customers would be in the popular places that people spend their days on the Internet.  Hence, you need to look no further than social media networks. The fact that Facebook is the number one website and social media network on the planet, is proof of this alone.  Where would you want to put your advertising dollars?

SEO had always been the for front of this free marketing power, but recent changes to the SERP's (Search Engine Ranking Pages) changed things.

The reason for this was simple, SEO experts were manipulating and tricking the SERP`s. Websites were getting ranked for keywords that had literally nothing to do with what they offered on their websites.  Google became aware of this problem and started to develop a more fair ranking system and this included adding social media into the mix.  Websites now have to rank for relevant content and be popular all at the same time.  No longer was SEO the only game in town.  This put things on a more level playing field and the SERP's were not as easily manipulated.

This makes sense when you think about it.  Do you really want to get sent to a car website for an orange car, when you are in fact searching for oranges? A car is not really a fruit, now is it?  How did this happen to begin with?

The SEO expert had ranked for the keyword orange using orange car as the gasoline (pardon the pun).  A car may be orange, but it is not relevant to Orange as in the fruit.  Google got smarter and started to make it harder for these tricks to work.  It is not perfect but it is a lot better. In doing so, they inadvertently opened the door to a whole new job market - social media.

The good news is, social media is the hottest new career trend and even better, there are not enough people to fill the demand.

Inc magazine reported that there is only one actual social media expert per five thousand available jobs in any given aspect of social media. This is a huge number of job prospects available to any one who wishes to begin a new career or start a business of their own.

There are countless numbers of social media related jobs and businesses, including:
  1. Blogging
  2. Content Writing and Article submission
  3. Wordpress Blog site creation.
  4. Facebook fan pages.
  5. Social media account creations
  6. Graphics and Videos
  7. Logo Design
  8. Marketing
  9. Branding solutions
  10. Twitter slogans and countless others..
Most experienced social media managers are able to perform all of these tasks themselves, but the reality is, most do not have the time do so and many do not have time to focus in one specific area. That has opened the market wide, for upcoming entrepreneurs, especially those who are experts in one specific area.

Social media is not difficult to learn but it does take a lot of time and patience for huge marketing type projects. There are many small related jobs that you can do. These part time jobs take less time and will help bring income into your business while it is developing, therefore, lessening the business risk factor considerably. A huge relief for many new business owners.

A part time social media consultant could make virtually 1000 per month just updating social media accounts that takes mere minutes.  The jobs available are so vast that it all depends on the type of job you wish to do and the amount of time you want to put into it.

The best part of social media is that you can start your business on a dime.  There are many free tools and many free sites to help you along the way.  If you do your research and hang out where other experts do, you can start a social media business on mere dollars.  Now that is something to tweet about!

For example, if you enjoy writing, why not consider a free lance blog writing career?

My passion for writing has developed into a full time free lance blogging and content writing business and it cost me a total investment of five hundred dollars. It takes hard work and a considerable amount of time, but I can and do make a considerable income. My return on investment (ROI) was greater than 200%, now that is something to blog about!

I never have to leave home to find work and for me, that is worth its' weight in gold.

No matter what job you choose in this field, you need to consider if social media is the route for you. It is not for everyone, but it is a great job and right now it is hot, hot, hot!
